About Letterboxed
Letterboxed is a blind collaboration involving written letters and videotaped readings of those letters by their authors. It is based on the exquisite corpse drawings done by the Surrealists in the early 20th century, and adapted to suit contemporary media.
12 people* participated in the Letterboxed project, which took roughly 8 months to complete. None of the participants were aware of the identities of any of the other participants, or even of the nature of the collaboration itself. In fact, each participant simply received a single written letter with instructions to compose a reply and read that reply on camera. I do not believe anyone was aware that he or she had received a letter that was, in fact, a response to a previous letter, and so on.
Episodes will be posted daily between June 11 and June 21, with an epilogue providing additional exposition and details following shortly thereafter. The epilogue will explain aspects of the project that, to explain now, would ruin the fun.
It’s difficult to adequately thank everyone who contributed to Letterboxed. Fortunately, I have until the writing of the epilogue post to figure out how, and I’m going to use all the time that convenience buys me.
